Emerging unto a cleft upon the Adamantine chain, the amalgamations of spirit & seedling bloomed from the rotting world roots. But their macabre spring upon the peaks was met with scenes of pure violence from the very moment of their emergence. For rival warlords from many realms & races made war in the backdrop of volcanic incandescence.

No sooner had the wrathful warband set stump upon the cleft, than a chilling cacophony split the sky itself. From beyond, howling gor-kin in service to foul Slaanesh descended. Foul abominations, loosely resembling heraldry from a long forsaken knightly order, leapt towards the spectres. Warped claws distending from gangly arms snipped and snicker-snacked at the Sylvaneth, and within moments the monstrosities had clambered upon Deathroot & torn his soul from his corporeal form. Flesh & flora was torn from the treelord with ease, as the beasts howled & exulted at the supernatural torment they inflicted.

His incorporeal form forced to linger above the ambush, Deathroot could only look on in horror as the rest of his kin was shorn from their wooded housings. Bones and bark broke with equal ease as these ‘fiendbloods’ went about their wicked work, the lashes of their masters heard cracking as they tore at their foe.

Released from their newly acquired forms, the gheists fled the cleft with a knot of emberstones to sustain their malice upon. The strange rocks glowed violently, seemingly able to seek out their own, and after an age wailing through the infernal wastes of Aqshy, the spectres were drawn to a ruined redoubt drenched in wrath. All along the exterior lay mangled corpses.

The malignants wasted no time in knitting flesh and suturing structures together with the fallen foliage littering the landmark. Entwined once more between the was-living and was-grown, the warband rallied to test their mettle once more against the denizens of the Gnaw. The wait was short-lived.

For it seemed the redoubt was not entirely abandoned….

Returning from some makeshift patrol, a depleted warhost made for the corpse strewn structure. A mockery of the God-Kings’ new creatures, the great deceivers’ touch was evident upon the host. Azure plate armour housed strange shapes and daemon-spawn, many of whom brandished oversized blades. Chain lightning lashed at the cursed earth as more of the fallen warriors coalesced into being, and battle was joined anew.

Ghostflame ripped roots from deep within the killing field which tore through the ranks of the assembled host. From within, the gheists were able to manipulate their forms to assault and assail their newfound foes. The agonised screams of such tortured souls stalled the counter strikes of the stormhost, and the malignants took full advantage of the hesitation. Whilst the claggy sands of the terrain impeded the heavily armoured warriors that had not faltered, the nature-dwellers had no such detractions.

The once proud warriors of Azyr had long lost their indomitable spirit, and beneath the sheer ferocity of the otherworldly onslaught, routed.

Once more the furies fed on souls and skin alike. New amalgamations were formed, renting and reshaping the fallen into more sustainable vessels for their endless malice.

But no sooner had the conflict concluded, bolts began to wicker through the air…….

Scrawny scavengers emerged from beneath the redoubt, raging winds of untempered indignation following in their wake. A great carrion creature split the storm with its wretched wingspan & descended upon the redoubt, some hideous mount manipulating its descent. Deathroot strode forth to meet the new foe and shield his lessers from slaughter. But the creature borne upon the vultures’ back hacked and stabbed with venoms that seemed to discorporate both flesh and soul from Deathroots’ form, and the mighty colossus collapsed into an unbound heap before the warlord.

Fuelled by the fervour inspired by their leader, the grubby greenskins overwhelmed the ill prepared poltergeists until once again they were torn from their hosts to wander the hot winds once more........
